Your Questions Answered

Before You Place Your Order

Due to time constraints it is difficult for us to answer all of the emails received.
Please read the information contained on this page. It will answer most of your questions and give us more time to make, package, and ship your bird's food.

MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are your Refund |  Return | Fees policies?

Our foods are literally handmade. Don't expect "Amazon-like" shipping. It will not happen. (See "Shipping" below) We only produce in 20-40 pound batches at a time. So you need to order your bird's food when you see we have it in stock! YOU ARE COMMISSIONING US TO MAKE YOUR BIRD’S FOOD WHEN YOU PLACE YOUR CUSTOM ORDER! This means that once you place your order your payment is non-refundable because we use your money to buy the ingredients. We only purchase enough ingredients for the amount of orders placed. We do this to ensure the freshest ingredients possible.

If we shouldchoose to make a refund due to extenuating circumstances, we charge a 20% restocking/inconvenience fee. Absolutely no refunds, returns or exchanges after 90 days of purchase of any item sold on our site.

Any customer that requests a refund due to their own mistakes and/or any customer who files a claim with Paypal or their payment method (credit/debit cards) before 6 weeks after order is placed will be banned from our site. Our foods are semi-custom. We do not ship like Amazon. This food takes time. Be patient or be BANNED from our site.

We charge a fee of $3.75 to update any customer's account information on their behalf. (Customers are responsible for maintaining their own account on our website.)

IMPORTANT:

You understand that your payment cannot be refunded and goods cannot be returned for any reason once you have made payment; you have custom-commissioned us to produce your bird’s food. Additionally, this policy is in place to protect the health of all companion birds, including yours. You also understand because our foods are handmade that your bird’s food may require as long or longer than 2-3 weeks to ship to you, but in many cases ships within 2-7 days of the receipt of your payment. In the case of bulk orders a minimum of 6-8 weeks are required before we ship after we receive your payment and we may not ship for as long as 10-14 weeks depending on our production schedule. A bulk order is any order of 10 or more pounds of food. In cases of tracking numbers that indicate “Delivered” and you have not received your package contact USPS.com immediately. If they cannot find your package you can file a claim for up to the actual amount you paid up to $50.00, less the shipping.

How much food should I purchase?

We estimate that each individual bird weighing 350-450 grams will consume about one pound of food every 3-4 weeks. We encourage our customers to order enough food to last for 6-8 weeks, then place another order as soon as we offer the next batch so you always have an order in the process while you bird is consuming the current batch.

Which food should I feed my bird?

We have created a page that explains which foods to feed and how to feed them. Please visit How and Which Foods Should I Feed My Bird?

Are your foods organic?

As stated on our package label:

Ingredients: All ingredients are human grade (except where indicated by ***) produced in a sustainable manner without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other harsh chemicals. ( *Indicates a conventionally grown ingredient; **Indicates ingredient that is “Wild-grown, Wild-harvested/derived from the earth or “Wild-crafted; ***FDA does not recognize ingredient as “human-grade”) +All powders are ensured to be free of any and all preservatives.

“Raw, wholesome, pure and unadulterated”† means that our ingredients are those that are produced without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides and they are processed without the use of any chemicals including added preservatives, colorings or flavorings or added synthetic vitamins. In addition none of our ingredients contain GMOs.

For more information, please check out the article on "What Is Organic?".

Do you offer samples?

We do not offer samples because as we all know parrots need time to adjust to new foods. For this reason we do not feel it is fair to present a small sample-sized portion of our food to your parrot and expect it to immediately make a decision whether it will “like” our food. Please “go out on a limb” and purchase at least 2-3 months worth of food for your bird and allow your bird time to make a full transition to our food. (2-3 pounds)

Our foods are nothing like any other food on the market! Once you open the package you will immediately notice the difference in our foods! The look of our food is colorful! The smell of our food is fresh and spicy! The feel of our food has both that snappy “beak appeal” yet semi-moist so that it does not scrape the digestive tract as it passes through; the moistness helps reduce “water bowl-dunking”.

Our food is designed to encourage the “foraging experience” so that a bird eats each morsel “from the inside out” just like a piece of fruit, berry or nut!

We promise, your bird has not ever experienced a food like BirD-elicious! Origins Wild Diet!

When will my food ship?

Understand that because your bird’s food is custom, hand-produced you are not buying factory, processed food. That means we take time and care in producing your bird’s food. From the time you place your order until your bird’s food ships — from processing your order, to ordering the ingredients, to prepping the ingredients, to producing the food, to packing the finished product, to shipping to you.

In most cases this means when you receive your bird’s food it is only 3 to 7 days old, when shipping within the 48 contiguous U.S. States. Our food doesn’t sit in a warehouse for months and then sit on a store's shelf for additional months before you buy it. Our food is by far the freshest food on the market!

COVID-19 PRODUCTION & SHIPPING: Expect delays of as much or more of 6 weeks before your order ships. We are doing our very best to keep up with production during this pandemic. We are taking every precaution to protect your flock’s food and get it produced in a safe & timely manner. However, if our supply veins are halted by the government there is little we can do. If the government stops all shipments, there is nothing we can do. All of us must exercise compassion and patience during this time.

Orders placed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday may not ship until the following Monday or Tuesday.

If you place your order on the weekend, or on any U.S. recognized holiday or bank holiday your order may be delayed. Our online payment processors advise us to delay shipping until each customer’s payment clears the bank which may be delayed for weekend and holiday purchases. Thank you! Holidays observed by the USPS are:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Washington's Birthday/Presidents Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

If you choose “Bulk” shipping options your order may require up to 6-10 weeks before shipping. Depending on the number of orders we have pending, bulk orders may ship sooner or later than stated here. Bulk orders of 5# or more include a payment processing fee.

Please read our Terms, Policy and Shipping pages. You understand that all shipping times are estimated and may take longer than expected for shipment of your order. In addition, we try not to ship partial orders. We try to ship all items at one time to save on shipping costs. Therefore, you understand that your order may not ship until we have all items on your order in stock. If we do backorder an item it will ship (with no additional shipping charges) as soon as it is in stock.

How do you handle out-of-stock and back-ordered items?

Out of Stock: If any options are not available this means: *Currently, due to the high demand of our foods, that variety of our Origins Wild Diet (OWD) foods are not available.

Backordered Items: If, when we ship your order any items are not in stock, all back-ordered items will be shipped once they are back in stock. We pay the additional shipping charges; you are not charged for backorder shipping.

*All sales are final due to the custom, artisan handmade nature of our products. We do not refund or exchange for any reason.

Do you offer shipping insurance?

The first $50 of your order is covered by USPS Priority. If you desire additional insurance on your order, please select one of the options provided. You can choose more than one option to cover the total cost of your order.

Example: If your order equals $750.00, you can choose both the $300 and $400 options and add them to your cart. With the first $50 automatically covered, by adding the $300 and $400 options, your order will be covered for $750.00.

How does the Auto-Renew Subscription work?

How customer accounts work

For every customer that completes checkout with a subscription product, a Customer Portal will be created that allows customers to access and manage their subscriptions. The Customer Portal can be accessed using a unique, hashed link that is sent to the customer by email.

Customers use their customer portal to update subscription information, add additional products, cancel subscriptions, and more.

Signing up for an Auto-Renew Subscription automatically give you an 8% discount on items ordered. You can set up your auto-ship billing for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th week of the month. You decide how many pounds of each variety of food your flock needs, how often it is needed, i.e. each month, every other month, every 3 months, every 6 months and so forth; add up the amount. Also add any other treats you may want each month. You can change, add, or delete items before each billing period. Be sure to include the shipping amount. Set your Automatic Billing limit high enough to cover your flock's food, treats and shipping. For more information click here.

The demand for our OWD foods is becoming increasingly difficult to fulfill as more and more bird-lovers decide to "feed their flocks really, really well". As a result, we require one month's advance notice to add on pounds to a monthly Auto Ship. Please, email us at least one month in advance of your next Auto Ship invoice to add on any amount of OWD daily diets which include: African Grey, Cockatiel, Cockatoo, Eclectus, Macaw, Birdie Brittle and/or Better Feathers.

Rush Orders

We can ship rush/express for the additional charge of $25.00 for handling and placing your order before our normal order que. You will also be required to pay the exact amount of USPS Priority Express for your address. This cost can vary depending on your global location. We will send you a custom invoice for charges associated with rush orders once you make the request.

International Orders

If you live outside the continental United States you will be contacted separately regarding your shipping charges. Your shipping is not free.

In addition to International Priority Shipping you will be expected to pay your country’s duty/customs taxes.

We cannot guarantee your country will allow our products into the country. There is NO guarantee your country will allow our products to cross the border.

Many countries irradiate foods as they cross the border; this will harm you bird’s food. Be sure to check with your customs office before ordering to ensure our products will be allowed to cross the border and that your package is not irradiated.

We accept no liability for packages shipped to International regions. No returns or refunds for any reason.

Overweight / Over-Sized Items

Some items on our website are heavier or larger than our shipping calculator can calculate weight for. A separate “shipping invoice” may be sent to cover shipping of bulkier and/or heavy items. Thank you for understanding.

Once a package leaves our facility we have no control over it. If you have looked up the tracking info for your package and the information states “DELIVERED” but you cannot find the package it’s time to make a call to your local USPS Post Office - the location that actually delivers your mail to you. Have them try to locate the package. If they cannot then you need to file a claim online here: https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input

ABOUT OUR COMPANY AND OUR FOOD

When did you start your company?

We first began researching species-specific exotic avian diets in 2001. For two years we studied and worked on formulating and testing our diets through an Internationally renowned food-testing laboratory before we made them available to the public.

We first opened our business in late 2003. Our species-specific foods were revolutionary, taking the avian community by surprise!

Soon the major commercial bird food companies jumped on board and began introducing their version of species-specific bird foods as well changing only the size of the pellets merely calling their foods species-specific based on the size of the kibble, not because the ingredients and the nutritional properties were balanced differently. History has proven that many brands of commercial bird foods have added some of the ingredients we use in our foods, but not the same quality of thos ingredients such and the “human grade” quality that we use.

Fast forward, our company simply grew too large too fast for us as a small company to keep up. We never intended to become a large, commercial company, we always wanted to remain a small “mom and pop” company serving our customers personally and intimately.

We always guaranteed our avian friends that we would communicate with them on a close basis keeping in contact through social media via email, blogs, and even telephone when necessary. Our desire is to keep all of our fans updated on any and all improvements we make to our foods because, well, we do plan on constantly improving our foods as new, credible research becomes available. You see, we believe that exotic avian nutrition is ever-evolving as a new frontier in wild, exotic creatures and all of us that are blessed to have these creatures in our midst are obligated to keep ourselves informed regarding the best in husbandry methods for their supreme benefit. In otherwards, when any husbandry methods become outdated, quite simply it’s time to abandon them and take hold of the new and move forward for the sake of preserving the species. This is the philosophy we live by at Passion Tree House.

As the result of our company growing too large too fast we were forced to temporarily close and catch our breath. We had to think long and hard about how we were going to get back into the arena and manage our company once we began producing our foods again...and while we were out of production our customers continued to contact us asking us to get back into production!

In the meantime we continued to research and reformulate our foods based on the research we were gathering and digesting.

The result? Better formulations are beginning to roll out. But we are taking all of this very slow and methodical ensuring we don’t burn out this time around so that we can continue to remain in business as a small and efficient company producing fresh quality exotic foods straight from our facilty to your bird’s pantry. Our food doesn’t sit in some warehouse for months and months, and then on some store shelf for months and months longer before your bird finally eats it. No, our food ships within a couple weeks if not days after it is produced with a shelf life of 6 months in an unopened vacuum-packed, oxygen-safe, light-safe, FDA approved Ziplock, stand-up resealable, environment-friendly pouch.

We hope you will choose our food for your beloved exotic bird! However, if this method of ordering does not suit you, please do not begin purchasing from us. But, if that is your decision your bird will be missing out on the finest food on the market. We truly hope you will allow your bird to try our food giving your bird the opportunity to optimally thrive on what Nature intends for the healthy, long lives of exotic companion birds. We have seen bird after bird begin and continue to thrive from consuming our food! We hope your bird will be one more to benefit from BirD-elicious! Origins Wild Diet®.

How do you make your food?

After we receive the ingredients we begin making the food for an individual batch. Then we have to dehydrate the food. After dehydration we have to complete the food processing. This takes another week to 10 days. Then we have to package the food in individual packages. Then we have to ship. All of this takes about 6-8 weeks. We have managed to cut this time period down to about 3-4 weeks, but this is not guaranteed. It takes a lot of planning on our part to ensure we have enough food in stock to meet all of our customer’s needs at any given moment, but we do our best to have the variety of food in stock when you place your order. This is also why sometimes your order will ship in less than 24 hours, but sometimes it will not ship for up to 10 days or more.

Do I need to feed anything other than your food?

We believe that after decades of all of us feeding highly processed commercial bird foods there is one fact learned — there is no one food that offers total nutrition without adding fresh foods to our birds’ diets. Exotic companion birds require fresh, raw foods added to their daily diets in order to thrive.

The same holds true when feeding BirD-elicious! Origins Wild Diet®.

Although we have gone to great lengths to ensure that our foods contain all of the essential nutrients your bird needs in order to thrive, including the most basic proteins, fatty acids, essential carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, there is nothing that can compare with Nature’s fresh, raw nutrition. And even though we take care to gently dehydrate our foods, ensuring that the digestive enzymes remain active and alive, adding additional prebiotic and probiotic foods to your bird’s daily diet will only help ensure quality, vibrant health!

So while we believe that our foods are the best on the market for your exotic companion bird, we strongly encourage you to feed the following foods to your bird on a daily basis to ensure your bird continues to thrive:

  • Organic hard-boiled egg whites (no yolk) for “animal protein” and the basis for building collagen.
  • Fresh, organic dark berries for the high amount of antioxidants they contain and the polyphenols in the way of anthocyanins; strong anti-cancer properties.
  • Fresh, organic tropical fruits for the high amount of “Lysine”, an essential amino acid lacking in so many foods the body cannot synthesize on its own.
  • Fresh, organic tender, young greens like barley grass and wheat grass. These are teeming with digestive enzymes and naturally occurring vitamins and minerals as well as chlorophyll, a very powerful antioxidant.
  • Fresh, organic red bell peppers and red grapefruit for the high amount of beta-carotene, the pre-cursor to vitamin A.
  • Fresh, organic herbs. Herbs are known for their anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. When fed fresh they provide natural digestive enzymes, naturally occurring vitamins, minerals and volatile oils similar to what birds would consume in the wild. Also be sure to feed fresh organic basil for the naturally-occurring iodine for good thyroid support.
  • Additional organic flax seed oil and hemp seed oil at the ratio of 2:1 respectively to support your bird’s high metabolic energy requirements. This will also help the skin remain supple and the feathers shine. If the uropygial gland (preening gland) is plugged this will help unplug the gland.

Limit these foods, but be sure to feed occasionally:

  • Sprouted organic seed for the naturally occurring digestive enzymes, vitamins and minerals they contain.
  • Sprouted organic grains specific to the location your species of bird originates from. But feed in extreme moderation.
  • Sprouted organic legumes specific to the location your species of bird originates from. But feed in extreme moderation.

We strongly discourage feeding the following:

  • Cooked grains: These are high in gluten, lectins and dead starches. Gluten is an indigestible protein birds cannot digest and absorb. Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins that do not allow carbohydrates to be used correctly. “Lectins’ stickiness allows them to bind with the lining, particularly the villi, of the small intestine. Perhaps the most insidious impacts lectins can leave in their wake is this: leaky gut. Leaky gut is a term for the breach in the intestinal lining created by lectins hand in hand with other antinutrients. Once the intestinal breach exists, lectins and other particles (like partially digested food, toxins, etc) can “leak” into the bloodstream.” (Ref: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/lectins/#axzz2bJI2Puba) Dead starches lack “amylase”, the digestive enzyme that aids in the breakdown of starches. Because birds lack this digestive enzyme in their mouth, an enzyme that humans have in their mouth, birds cannot efficiently breaking starches down until the lower gut where amylase is present in the endocrine system. This places a strain on the overall endocrine system and may lead to pancreatitis, diabetes and/or hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease).
  • Cooked Legumes: These are high in lectins and starches and should be avoided for the same reasons as cooked grains. In addition cooked legumes are also high in the amino acid “Arginine”. The FDA has now taken Arginine off the list of essential amino acids due to the fact that living creatures consume such an abundance of foods containing Arginine it is no longer considered an “essential” amino acid, i.e. one that requires consumption in order to complete the protein nutritional profile. In other words, Americans are consuming so many grains and legumes in all of the highly processed foods we consume, all high in Arginine, that we no longer need to find sources of Arginine for our diet. The same holds true for the highly processed pet foods we feed to our pets.
  • Vegetables that are in the “true” botanical classification of “vegetables”. These are extremely high in the indigestible fiber “cellulose”. Cellulose is mainly used by the digestive tract as a mere laxative and offers no nutritional value at all. In fact it actually leaches nutrients out of the digestive tract as it passes through scraping and scrubbing the digestive tract. While humans with our long and wide digestive tract may need a good and thorough cleaning, especially for those of us that consume meat products, birds have a short and narrow digestive tract and consume mostly plant matter. Therefore they do not need laxatives. Nature has provided them mostly berries, fruit, tender grasses and herbs to gently flush their digestive tract with pectin and hemicellulose. When we force-feed our birds vegetables with cellulose tightly woven in, such as broccoli, carrots, turnips, etc., our birds are forced to consume the cellulose if they want to obtain the nutrients contained in the remainder of the vegetable. Unfortunately the cellulose leaches the nutrients of the vegetable from the digestive tract as it passes through rendering very little overall nutritional value when all is said and done. But when foods packed with pectin are fed, the pectin acts like a sponge, both delivering nutrients and flushing toxins at the same time. This is why when you compare feather color between birds on a high fruit diet to birds on a high vegetable diet you will see deeper, bright feather color in the birds fed a high fruit diet! Vegetables leach nutrients; fruit saturate the body with nutrients.

Now that you are armed with all of this information you are ready to feed BirD-elicious! Origins Wild Diet® Simply The BEST Bird Food!®
